Rippon Bros Works

Caption :- Rippon Bros. Landau, 1905.
The first owner was a Doncaster mill proprietor. Alongside the River Don and the New Cut in Doncaster, c1905, there were 2 corn mills, 2 saw mills and a bone crushing mill.
A landau was a 4-seat formal carriage, driven by a coach-man, which could be used open, as here, or closed. In 1905 horse-drawn carriages out-sold motor cars. By 1912 the reverse was the case.
