Black Hill Reservoir

Description and History of Site:-
Constructed by the Keighley Corporation Waterworks and completed in 1878. This was part of the first waterworks infrastructure of the town comprising Watersheddles reservoir (LAN00022), Ponden (WYK02601) reservoir and a conduit, 7 miles long of 12-18 inch diameter cast iron pipes, from Watersheddles to Black Hill.

" This Reservoir, which was completed in 1878, is situated at the top of Highfield Lane at an elevation of 800 feet above sea level, and therefore can supply all except the highest points in the vicinity of Keighley. The reservoir is an open one and is rectangular in form. The inner slopes are 2 to 1 and are covered with stone pitching. The depth when full is 18 feet and the capacity about 2 1/2 million gallons." (Sladen Valley Waterworks, 1925.)

The reservoir existed, as open water at least, into the mid 1970's but was clearly disused by 2002, and finally filled in by 2018.
