Forge Locks

Description and History of Site:-

Three rise lock of 1770-1777. Modern footbridges. Overflow and bypass channel to the south side. The site is of interest due to the close proximity of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, the River Aire and the two bridges, Kirkstall forge lower and upper, carrying the Midland Railway across the river.
