Description and History of Site:-
Kelly's 1881 West Riding Directory lists the occupiers of Engine Bridge Mills as: Frederick Eastwood and Co, worsted manufacturers, William Wood and Co, angola [sic] yarn spinners, and Jesse Clegg and Co, woollen manufacturers.
The Eldon Combing Company Limited was incorporated in 1922, and it was probably around that time that the Engine Bridge Mills was remodelled. The distinctive rounded northern corner appears on the OS 25" map of 1930, but not on that of 1913. Otherwise the outline of the mill, and the location of chimney and engine house are so similar as to strongly suggest that the main body of the mill was unchanged. The mill was still standing, and apparently in use in 1973, but had been demolished by the 1980s.
