Albert Springs Brewery

Description and History of Site:-
The site of he brewery is occupied by modern houses. Only the name, Brewery Street, provides a clue as to the existence of the Albert Springs concern. The proprietor's house stood on the block below at the end of Iona Place, but it too has been replaced by newer dwellings. Small 25 barrel brewery with its own malt kiln established in 1863 by Mr John Sykes following the dissolution of his partnership with Joseph Horner at the nearby Woodlands Brewery (qv). He also built Fern Field House for his own use. Ill health forced the sale of the brewery in late 1877 along with thirteen licensed houses which passed to Samuel Webster & Sons. It is not known to what use the brewery premises were subsequently put, but all has now been demolished and replaced by new houses.
