Description and History of Site:-
Dating probably from the middle of the seventeenth century and scheduled as an ancient monument, this structure carries an unclassified road between Barden and Appletreewick, over the River Wharfe. The bridge comprises three segmental arches, 42 ft. 6 in.(12.95m), 48 ft. 6 in.(14.78m) and 42 ft. 9 in. (13.03m) in span giving a total length of 158ft 9in (48.39m). The carriageway has a width of 10 ft. (3.05m) and, in the absence of footways, refuges are provided above the cutwaters. According to the Otley Parish Registers, the bridge was in 1673 "overturned by a wonderful inundation of waters in the northern parts" and three years later it was repaired.
