Description and History of Site:-
Single storey lead smelting mill 5.5m x 4.5m, with a squat chimney, comprising two rooms; bellows room and a furnace area. Footings and flagged floor area still visible along with two vertical Keeper Stones for keeping the furnace hearth in place. Waterwheel pit 6.7m x 0.5m and tailrace also still visible . Waterwheel estimated at approximately 4.8m x 0.3m and have been overshot or high breastshot.
The mill dam 10m x 30m, though silted, is still discernible and still issuing water to the wheel pit.
Nearby, alongside the beck side, is a keyhole shaped wood drying kiln, still visible. In operation from c1700 to c1746 receiving its lead ore from the nearby Glusburn Moor mine. (see NYK01648)
