Weston brick kiln

Description and History of Site:-
This feature was revealed during the stripping of topsoil and subsoil for the laying of a major gas pipeline, and was subsequently excavated prior to its destruction. It was seen as a rectangular foundation 2m by 1.5m planed off by the earth-movers and consisting entirely of fired red brick which were either the base of the kiln or a layer of brick not taken out at its last firing. It was a clamp kiln.
