Myers & Burnell

Description and History of Site:-

The site is on the south side of Little Stonegate, near its junction with Back Swinegate. 3-storey brick-built with decorative brickwork over the windows.Myers & Burnell was established c.1829 when Martin Burnell and Christopher Myers, coachsmiths joined forces. By 1834 they had premises in Little Stonegate and at 7 Davygate. At the end of 1848 Myers & Burnell moved next door, to 17 Little Stonegate, where they remained, together with the Davygate premises, until the late 1960s when the firm closed. The Stonegate and Davygate properties backed onto each other and it was possible to drive from Davygate out into Little Stonegate, very useful for moving vehicles around. The Little Stonegate premises included a small 2-storey cottage that was their offices.
