Description and History of Site:-
Elaborate weir not only raising level but also narrowing channel. Weir recently lowered. Very large building for water mill no evidence of supplementation by steam. Brick four storeys plus stone basement on which herringbone tooling. Probably were two overshot wheels one from beck and one from river. Brick mill seems to have gradually evolved some brickwork looks 17c. Arched brick voussoir lintels large paned windows stone. (Hatcher, 1973). Is annotated as a 'roller mill' on the OS 6" map of 1913, though not on that of 1853.
