Selby Maltings

Description and History of Site:-
Two large maltings. Brick and slate, very plain. Three storeys and two lofts, upper loft has circular lunette in gable. Very deep voussoirs - lintels 5 brick courses deep.Rail side site. Barley was imported from Australia, via Hull, then brought to Selby by rail or river, and mixed with British barley (Hatcher, 1974). In 2016, the southern malthouse had been demolished and redeveloped to housing while the northern still stands, though in near derelict condition.
