Description and History of Site:-
Small stone built tower windmill that was converted to a water tower by the private York Waterworks Company by the addition of a cylindrical reinforced concrete water tank. The tower base is built in local magnesian limestone.
In 1973 Hatcher noted:- Round limestone tower. Exterior been blackened by pitch at some time. 3 Doorways 4th place occupied by a window. Projecting sills to windows. All openings have flat arches of small stone voussoirs, no lintel slabs as at Sutton. Water tower in 1973, supplying water to Askham Richard.
