Burton Mill

Description and History of Site:-

Corn watermill, water-powered saw-mill and mill house. Rubble with ashlar dressings, stone slate roofs.Reportedly a fulling mill on the site in 1340. The flour mill built in 1790 (there is a date stone of 1780). The house and stable built in 1880. The Hobsons owned the mill for two generations and sold it to 'Teesside Farmers' in 1940. Converted to electricity c1944 and ceased working in c1954.
