Description and History of Site:-
Former currier works and later head office of Connolly Leather. Brothers John Joseph and Samuel Frederick Connolly sold their shoe repairing business in 1878 and branched out into harness and saddlery. In 1884 they moved from Euston Road to new premises in Chalton Street. In the 1920s manufacture was moved from Euston Road to new premises in Chalton Street. In the 1920s manufacture was moved to a site on the River Wandle in Wimbledon. By this time they were manufacturing high quality leather goods, especially for upholstery, for the seats of Rolls Royce cars and furniture and wall panels of luxury liners. The benches in the House of Commons are covered with Connolly Leather.
