Description and History of Site:-
Thorngumbald Low Light, River Humber estuary north bank overlooking a stretch of river shown on OS map as Paull Roads. Lighthouse, originally moveable to take into account the frequent changes of the navigable channel. It was designed to move on rails 26ft in length, of unusual section with locating spigots in the end. When visited, it had been concreted in position. With Thorngumbald High Light it formed a pair of leading lights. An adjoining light-keeper's house was demolished when the flood bank was constructed in the early 21st century; the bank now surrounds the lighthouse.
Also described as Thorngumbald Clough Low Light. Built by Thompson & Stather of Hull in 1870. The originally adjoining lighthouse keeper's cottage was demolished. Light ceased operating in 1948 but re-instated in 1952.
