Description and History of Site:-
Atkinson (1974): 'This corn mill, known as Demesnes Mill, or Barker's Mill, stands on the river Tees and utilised a natural rock outcrop along the river-bed as weir. Now used for storage, it has an internal undershot wheel 15ft x 5ft 8in which drove four pairs of stones by a variation of counter gear. The gearing throughout is predominantly iron.'
Falconer (1980): 'A rubble-built corn mill on the River Tees utilising a natural outcrop as a weir. Three-storey and rectangular in plan, it still houses a 15 ft diameter waterwheel and some iron gearing.'
