St Nicholas Ironworks

Caption :- 'This memorial commemorates the firm of Charles Burrell & Sons Limited who carried on business in these premises from 1770 to 1930. They produced the world's first heavy duty steam road haulage engine in 1856 followed by a great variety of traction & other engines & agricultural machines. Erected by public subscription in 1958, being the hundred and second anniversary of the above engine leaving these works.'
