Description and History

Established 1833. Following charter, 1703, Bermondsey became centre of tanning and leather trade.

Market consists of distinguished three-storey stock-brick building of nine bays with large pilasters and two wings. Large yard formerly piled high with skins and four-storey island warehouse at rear. Adjacent Leather, Hide and Wool Exchange (qv).
