Newlay Weir

Description and History of Site:-

Gritstone weir on the River Aire, approx 50 metres long.Constructed 1690 to form a leat/goit to Kirkstall Forge to power the slitting and rolling mill. In February 2021 the weir was breached following heavy rain, after piling had been installed on the southern bank for construction of fish and eel passes.
