Kirkstall Tram Sub-station

Description and History of Site:-

Leeds City Tramways electricity substation of 1906. Tall building in stone, which retains a few original features including a pair of double-height doors facing onto the road.Used to provide power to trams on the number 4 route between Woodside Avenue, Kirkstall, and the tramway terminus in Horsforth. Decommissioned in 1948. Subsequently used for a variety of light engineering purposes; until quite recently by a metal fabrications company. Currently (2020) planning permission has been given for its conversion into residential flats.
