Brackendale Mills

Description and History of Site:-

Giles & Goodall wrote: "Woollen mill, established c1800 using water power, with a steam-powered mill built later. Expansion of site involved construction of weaving shed c1875 some distance from main buildings. Shed has brick-vaulted part basement and main working floor of eight bays by eight bays. Power provided by vertical engine in corner engine house."

Two small groups of workers housing associated with the mill remain. Most of that part of the site to the south of the millpond redeveloped to residential, while three buildings to the north, possibly warehousing, seem to have been refurbished to apartments.
