Griffe Mill

Description and History of Site:-

Ruinous in 2018.

William Hollings built Griffe Mill in the late 18th century, as a cotton spinning mill. In the early nineteenth century Joseph Lister was a tenant of part of the mill. By the 1820s it became a worsted mill, employing many of the residents of nearby Stanbury village. A cobbled road lead down from the village, now buried under the soil. A millpond fed a water wheel, which was later replaced by a water turbine. By 1928 the mill had closed, and left derelict. (haworth-village.org.uk)

Water powered cotton spinning mill established by 1793, used for worsted spinning from the 1820s and also worsted weaving from the mid C19. The original three story, six bay mill extended, by the late C19, around the mill yard with extra spinning capacity, warehousing, workers housing and a two-phase weaving shed. Separate gasworks. (Giles and Goodall)

Was in ruins by the time of the Giles and Goodall survey (1992).
