Hope Glassworks

Description and History of Site:-

Founded by Ben Rylands 1867. By 1874 the site also made the Hiram Codd's patented mineral water bottle (with the glass marble stopper). The Rylands were in partnership with Codd 1877-84 and the works later became the largest maker of his bottle. The firm closed in 1928. The site was bought 1929 by Beatson Clark whose works were still in production in 1994.

An aerial view of the Beatson, Clark and Co Glass Bottle Works, formerly the 'Hope Glass Works', in 1951 can be seen at :- https://britainfromabove.org.uk/en/image/EAW035573
