Bobbin Mill, or Intake Saw Mill

Return to Map

Description and History of Site:-

Shown on the 1856 OS map as a Bobbin Mill and on the 1895 and 1914 OS maps as Intake Saw Mill.

The water-course between SE 13806 91659 and SE 14129 91677 Wipperdale Beck, is the mill leat and is embanked approximately half-way up the hill-side some 20ft above the lowest point, in the valley, which has a separate stream in it. This watercourse continues for approximately 2 miles before it rejoins Burton Beck in the grounds of Constable Burton Hall and appears to be wholly artificial. The overflow structure remains at SE 13959 91663.
