Description and History of Site:-

It is a very large Georgian-style mansion, built in the 'classical' style befitting a mill owner and set within what a sales document from 1849 described as 'Pleasure Grounds' with wooded areas, lawns, gardens and a series of curving pathways and drives, stretching down to the banks of the long mill pond. It was built by Wm Clayton close to their new cotton spinning mill (High Mill) to which it was connected by a pathway. In 1849 the Claytons were forced to sell everything here and after the mills closed in c. 1955 it fell on hard times being sub-divided into apartments with the pleasure grounds being turned into a caravan park.

It is a three-story, five-bay house
