Description and History of Site:-

In 1792 Jeremiah Taylor and Robert Parkinson built this four storey cotton mill which replaced an earlier corn mill. In 1795 the mill measured 60 feet by 36 feet and was powered with a 30ft X 4ft water wheel. The spinning machinery then consisted of 10 cotton frames, a further 2 which were unfinished and 4 flax spinning frames.Taylor & Parkinson were bankrupt in1795 and the mill was bought by Robert Barrow, a mule-spinner from Westhouse Mill which he insured in 1797 for £1,000. The Burrow family continued at this mill until at least 1835.
