Butterton Bridge

Description and History of Site:-

A substantially complete single arch medieval stone bridge.Built, probably in the 13th century, on an important route to and from from Fountains Abbey. It became redundant following the dissolution of Fountains Abbey in 1539 and now lies abandoned in dense woodland in the valley of Pickering Gill. Currently (2017) on the Heritage-at-Risk register.
