Foss Islands Power Station

Description and History of Site:-

Finest chimney in York, top corbelled out in Moorish manner. Established in 1900. Principally a refuse destructor but also generated electricity.Closed in 1976 and subsequently demolished, apart from the chimney. Site now a retail park, including Morrisons supermarket.
