Description and History of Site:-

Hatcher noted - Single storey stone and slate building of some merit. Rusticated finish to stone with ashlar quoins monolithic lintels sills etc. Very tall narrow windows under flat heads.

It is a standard
Passenger traffic ended in 1954 and the line was closed for good in 1959. The site was taken over by the National Park Authority as its museum and visitor centre in the 1990s.Authorised under the Hawes to Melmerby Act 5th July 1865, though only the Hawes - Leyburn section was built under Amendment Act of 4th July 1870. Length 12 1/2 miles. Contractor Gibb & Sons Askrigg / Hawes. Opened to goods on 1st June 1878 and to passengers on 1st October 1878. Closed to passengers 26th June 1954. Track lifted 1964?

Now (2015) the Station buildings plus and extension over the platforms is now use as The Dales Countryside Museum and visitors' centre while the adjacent goods shed, and sidings which are now a tarred car park. The building is perfectly preserved and is used as a cafe and part of the museum complex.
