Description and History of Site:-

Built 1864-5 by E.A. Grüning for German businessmen in London. Roof supported by 60 ft span laminated timber arches (cf. original King's Cross train shed and St. Paul's Presbyterian Church, West Ferry Rd., Tower Hamlets). Reminiscent of contemporary Munich architecture, 'round arched' polychrome brickwork. 'Türnhalle' over 26 Pancras Rd entrance. Originally shop units flanked this entrance on both sides. Now shortened on the west side due to road widening and in use as a restaurant.
