Hammersmith (Met.) Station

Description and History of Site:-

Opened 1864 some 150 yards to north, moved south 1868, rebuilt 1908. 1-storey building incorporating art nouveau ironwork and red brickwork. Internally, glazed roof carried on trusses overlooking island booking hall, pub and shops, As Hammersmith and City Railway, built by GWR to broad gauge standards: joint GWR/Met. Board 1867, LPTB 1933.Alterations made in 2010s to accommodate longer surface stock trains with some original features being lost.
