Lots Road Electricity Generating Station

Description and History of Site:-

1902-5, massive red-brick and terracotta building, designed by Yerkes & Chapman for Brompton & Piccadilly Circus Railway to supply District and other railways, three allied tubes and part of LU system. One of earliest stations to rely exclusively on turbines. Largest traction power station in world when built.Modernised 1970s, two of four original chimneys removed, closed October 2002.
