Old Lane New Mill or Old Lane Mill - Halifax

Old Lane Mill was erected in 1828 for James Akroyd, junior (1785-1836) on part of the site of the Old Lane Corn Mill, utilising finance provided by W. H. Rawson. The mill was the first in Halifax to adopt entirely fireproof construction and features arched cast iron roof trusses, possibly the earliest of their type in Yorkshire. Akroyd manufactured worsted cloth here until 1836, thereafter cotton yarn was spun, first by Rawson and then by Bowmans. View from Stannary October 1979.
