National Shell Factory National Projectile Factory National Ordnance Factory, Leeds (Newlay)

Description and History of Site:-
Described as adjoining those of Schoen Wheel Company, Newlay, Leeds. Manufactured 9.2in and 15in shells.
Site of wheel factory and adjoining buildings are shown on 1921 OS, but appear to have been demolished prior to 1930s map. Site is currently wooded. Some earthworks/floor slabs may survive.
Opened: April 1916. Managed by the Leeds Forge Company Ltd. Became National Ordnance Factory No. 1.
