Description and History of Site:-
Early cotton mill soon changed over to worsted spinning. Site considerably extended in C19th. Part of the original works (north range) extant and listed. Rented by Airedale Springs between 1974 and 1989, and who returned to the site to build a new spring works in 2012. Built by John Greenwood in 1795 or before on the site of an old corn mill. Brooks Priestley, the tenant, married Greenwood's daughter and had as his partner Charles Woodiwis. Mill insured with Sun Fire Office for 300 in 1785. In 1788 occupied by Blakey & Lomax for cotton spinning, but in 1789 part was occupied by William Greenwood, James Greenwood and Henry Rishworth for spinning worsted. James Greenwood, John Greenwood's son insured the mill and machinery for 600 in 1793. In 1803 William Ellis employed 25 people at the mill. In 1810 it was turned over completely to spinning worsted.
