Description and History of Site:-
Calder and Hebble lock-keeper's or lengthsman's cottage (unoccupied) facing Elland Lock at the western end of Freeman's Cut. Single storey with three bays, original hipped stone slate roof replaced by felt, and canted bay with central doorway. The cut between Elland and Brookfoot passing via Park Nook, known as Freeman's Cut, was dug during 1824. This and a similarly designed lock-keeper's cottage at Brookfoot Lock (qv) were probably erected as part of this work. The lock house stands beside Elland Lock (SE 11087 21892, grade II) and slightly to the west lies a 100 yards stone (SE 1102 2182) and a milestone 'From Fall Ing 18 miles' (SE 11023 21816).
