Description and History of Site:-
Junction station built by the Midland Railway, set on an island platform approached by an underground passage from station yard.
Many original features including ornamental cast-iron columns, brackets and spandrels with the Midland Railway wyvern symbol, MR logo and elaborate foliage.
Late 19th-century cast-iron weighbridge on platform at south end of station buildings embossed MR and RD KITCHIN WARRINGTON.
Station buildings variously repurposed as cafe ('Shed24H'), shop and holiday accommodation ('The Yorkshire Sleeper').
One remaining operational signal box (Hellifield South Junction).
