Description and History of Site:-
Built in 1914 Upper Oakdale Reservoir supplied water to Northallerton and area. Water was retained by an 11.9m (39ft) high earth embankment with puddled clay core. As originally built the reservoir had top water level of 183.3m (601 ft) an water surface area of approximately 1 ha (2 acres) and impounded 52 000 cu m (1,140,000 gallons). Prior to 2014 the reservoir supplied compensation water to Cod Beck Reservoir. In March 2014 the dam was decommissioned and the reservoir embankment was breached and replaced by a gabion weir.
