Midland Engine Works

Caption :- McLaren 'semi-fixed' engine of the late 1880s. These were complete engines constructed on a strong bed-plate to which the boiler and all engine components and controls were fixed. Thus it was possible to move them (though not under their own steam) from one location to another without any dis-assembly. From 'Yorkshire Industries - Part 1' 1888, p131.
