Description and History of Site:-
Its form is not known but after closure the site was cleared and left to nature. Joseph Briggs, who was born around 1766, was a farmer at West Scholes where he had sunk a pit by 1831. It worked the Soft Bed coal. He died around 1841 when his business passed to his son, Joseph, who continued to work it until closure in 1887.
