Heath Water Tower

Description and History of Site:-
Square gritstone water tower of early-mid C17 restored c1985. Spring fed cistern at the base carved out of the bedrock. Below and to the west are remains of C19 cast-iron waterwheel approached down 2 flights of 9 stone steps. Believed to be associated with the demolished Heath Old Hall. Its precise function now uncertain, but the utilisation of the spring water, waterwheel and channels suggest that it may have had some purpose beyond simply a viewing tower. The waterworks and potential for storage suggest a small scale industrial or domestic supply.

Known as 'Dame Mary Bolle's Water Tower'.
