Valley Road Power Station

Description and History of Site:-
Following the success of their first venture into electricity generation at Bolton Road (WYK01089), Bradford Corporation began work on the construction of their second station on Valley Road in 1896. The station opened on October 8th 1897. Originally, there were two Willans triple expansion engines each specified to give 300 IHP, but actually capable of running at 700 HP continuously. The engines were directly coupled to Siemens multipolar dynamos each generating DC current at 500V, 750A (375 kW) at 300 rpm. The normal steam pressure was at 180 psi, but this could be raised to 200 psi if necessary.

Valley Road No2 station, together with the adjoining No3 were closed in 1975 and demolished by 1978.
