Description and History of Site:-
Weaving shed with warehouse Built as water powered cotton spinning mill by Ambrose Dean about 1799 with Boulton & Watt 6 h.p. steam engine added 1803.
In 1811 the mill had ten throstles (spinning machines) with 126 spindles each.
In 1824 the three storey mill measured 40ft by 24ft, but also had an attic. The nearby warehouse had the same dimensions.
Ambrose Dean was followed by John Dean and then Robinson Brigg who was bankrupt in 1841. John Cockroft & Sons also occupied part of the mill and were bankrupt three months later.
The mill was taken by Thomas Beck from about 1845.
In 1875 John Hartley & Robinson Hargreaves, who were worsted manufacturers in Bradford ran the mill, presumably for worsted spinning and weaving.
After the First World War William Watson took this mill for weaving rayon. The looms were taken out in 1971.
Several small enterprises now occupy the old weaving shed.
