Description and History of Site:-
The quarry which stood on the summit plateau east of the deep vale has long since been infilled and landscaped to be returned to pasture but along the western edge of the site where massive quantities of stone were discarded the carefully laid and slightly battered retaining judd walls are still fully erect, standing up to 7m high for a length of over 54m by 37m. A public right of way ran west-east through the discard area and to preserve that a narrow 6m-long tunnel was built so that stone could be piled above and to the north - this has survived in perfect condition and is still in use. (SE10064 28560 - SE10073 28542)
Elland Flags were exploited in Bare Head for roofing, flooring and building stone. No other structures remain. Nothing in detail has been located.
