Description and History of Site:-
1805 - 4 storeys 40 yards x 11 yards. Wheel - 18ft X 18ft. Buildings still in use. Now (2018) Castlefields industrial estate.
In the south east corner of the site are the mill-masters house and attached workers cottages - listed grade II, no. 1133382. Established in 1792 as a cotton spinning mill, when it was insured for £5,000. The first partnership comprised - Johnson Atkinson Busfield, Joseph Wood, James Sidgwick and Wilmer Mackett Willett. By 1797 the mill may have been enlarged as the insurance valuation had increased to £7,000. Many partnership changes followed, but by 1817 it was being run by William Ellis. By 1891 the mill had expanded considerably and had become a worsted mill.
