Description and History of Site:-
Complex of industrial buildings of unusual antiquity and abnormal size for their age. Lovely white limestone. Some buildings dug into hillside. Adjacent to large weir across Wharfe. Some 17c type rectangular flat headed windows minus their two stone mullions. Some 18c type factory windows. Buildings much altered, not very well, but modern extensions very good. (Hatcher 1974). Originally built as an oil mill in 1691. Later enlarged and converted to a corn mill and paper mill. In 1851 was owned by a Mr Hatfield and occupied by a Mr Galpine. At some time also used to manufacture bobbins. Marked on the OS map of 1906 as separate corn (demolished) and saw (partially extant) mills. At the time of listing (1988) was used as a factory in the occupation of Blanella Ltd. manufacturing electric blankets. Shortly after this, the site was sold for redevelopment into residential use.
