Railway Boundary Stone

Description and History of Site:-
What is possibly the only remaining York and North Midland Railway boundary stone is set into the wall of the old railway workshop fronting onto Lowther Terrace in the outer wall of the former joiners shop of the York and North Midland Railways. This subsequently became the North Eastern Railways Queen Street Works and was lately used by British Rail Road Motors as a garage and then a car hire facility.

The stone which dates from between 1839-1854 has suffered serious deterioration over several years due to water and freeze/ thaw caused by a damaged gutter above the stone.
