Summer Lodge Moor

Description and History of Site:-
A single completed millstone roughout was laid, propped on a purpose-built loading platform, by the roadside but never taken away. There is evidence on the Moor of stone working but it is impossible to determine precisely where the stone was sourced.

Diameter 1.5m, thickness at the edge 190mm, thickness at the eye 260
mm, eye diameter 180mm.
On a rock next to the roughout is etched "J.171-" which dates the stone to the early 18th century. Nothing else is known of its history.
