Moulds Top stone workings

Description and History of Site:-
Scattered across the moor top, and just below the edge on the eastern side of the moor, are 13 millstone roughouts and 3 dimension stone blocks, plus several earthfast blocks with 19th-century grafitti, the latter probably relating to lead mining. Some of the millstones were well on in the shaping process, others less so. For an unknown reason, work must have stopped suddenly and all the part-worked stones were abandoned in situ. There is no evidence of any shelters or other infrastructure. Stone within the Lower Howgate Edge Grit was worked here.
