Description and History of Site:-
Complex of brick buildings. Mill: ground floor of white stone rest brick. Three storeys plus lost. Sash windows some with small some large panes. Sweet semi-circular window to loft. Wheelhouse in basement in 2nd quarter not at one end. Flat arched lintels. Arch through chimney stack. Numerous stones about. Pleasant house mainly in stone. Nice brick anciliary buildings. (Hatcher, 1973). According to Hatcher in 1973, the daughter of the last miller, then still living at Mill Garth, reported that the mill was built by William Oates. The Gill family, trading as George Gill & Son, operated the mill between 1877 and June 1965. The mill's power was supplemented by electricity in the latter years of its use.
Originally a flax mill. At the time of Hatcher's visit in 1973, line shafting associated with shuttles was still evident.
